If I create a character in Prophecies after I "finish" that chapter and move to Factions does my character go with me or do I have to create a new character? And if I can keep my old character how do I pick one of the newer classes like the Assassin, Dervish, etc.?

you will be able to take your character with you.
You can create new characters in each chapter as well---when you add those chapters to your account you will have the options of creating characters in prophecies, factions (and if you add nightfall)..... There will be a quest that will let you 'travel' to the other chapters, and yes, you can travel at will to any chapter you own. welcome to the game.

All Guild Wars campaigns work the same way: you create a character, the character does some training, then things get complicated somehow and the story really starts. At this point, a call is sent out for aid to other continents.
This point is quite early in the campaign, maybe at about 20% of campaign progress. At this point, any character from any campaign can join the storyline and continue onward from it just like a native character. So, essentially, as a "foreigner" you miss out the tutorial and the very earliest part of a campaign, no more. You get to experience practically all of it. |

But if I play the story starting with Prophecies, then Factions, then Nightfall, and then Eye of the North I'll be able to keep my original character? And if I want to switch to an Assassin/Dervish or Paragon/Ritualist, I can do that whenever? Or is it whenever I create a character his professions are set in stone and I can't switch them?
Because I want to play a Profession out of the later chapters but I want to start with Prophecies.... |

Your main profession is set in stone, your secondary one is not. So if you make an Elementalist/Monk, say, you will end up as an Elementalist/Whatever once you get far enough.

Cause right now I want to play as either a Dervish or an Assassin as my primary profession so do I have to start in Factions or Nightfall and then travel back to Prophecies??
Sorry if I sound like a total idiot..... Last edited by FamousRyno; Apr 20, 2011 at 04:22 PM // 16:22.. |

For the Assassin, you would start out in Factions. The from Kaineng take the quests to the other campaigns. |

Thank you for clarifying that up for me. I tend to over think things sometimes and I just have to break down my question Barney style and have the answer explained to me so I can understand.
Thanks for bearing with me on such an easy question. I really appreciate it. |

You will be able to take any character to just about any place with one exception---pre searing prophecies ---this area is for prophecies characters only and once you leave(with that character) that character can not return (in all of the other chapters you can get back to the 'starting' areas).
So play around, learn skills and such...make some friends, join a guild and have a good time playing!

First of all welcome to the game. I hope you are going to enjoy it as much as I do.
The answer to your questions isn't simple. The 6 core-professions are mesmer, warrior, ranger, monk, ele and necromancer. You can start those in any campaign. In factions you can also star as an assasin or a ritualist. In nightfall you can choose to play Dervish or Paragon too. Every campaign consists of the following setup: 1: tutorial area 2: port-town 3: the rest of the campagin. After arrival in the port town of a campagin you can travel to different campagins (though sometime additional achievements are needed, for example in nightfall you arrive in the porttown very early, but you need to do some additional quests and misions before you can travel to a different campaign). After you travelled to another campagin you get a ship on your map allowing you always to return. All tutorial area consist of two parts. A closed part only accesable for players from that campagin, after leaving that you can never return. An open part, all characters from all campaigns can go there and play the missions. but for characters who traveled there from a different campaigns there are no quests available. The closed part of prophecy's tutorial is kinda big with several explorable area's and outposts. The closed parts of factions and nightfall are small (only one explorable area, no outposts and only one quest). After you picked a primairy profession you can never change that. Your secondary profession can be changed later on in the game and to all available professions of all campaigns (if you own all campagins). After unlocking campaigntravel in an campaign (always bout 20% into it) the storyline will be the same for characters from that campagin and for characters from different campaigns (with some exceptions, but those are again mostly tutorial quests as well, explainng some more advanced features of the game). There is no true advantage in starting in a certain campagins. Any profession from any campaigns can finish all three campaigns and the expansion eye of the north. |

Just start any class you like so you have more than one character. They are fun to play. And you learning to play the classes will help you to understand the class for the heroes you will command next time.

So I want to pick a Dervish. How do I know when the tutorial level is over so I can start the campaign at the beginning? Also how do I start the campaign at the beginning (As in where do I go to start the entire Guild Wars game from the beginning)?

In Nightfall, the tutorial part of the game is over once you have access to the mission Consulate Docks; completing it will bring you to the mainland and the main plot starts. That's also the point where you'll find quests in Kamadan that will grant you travel to the other continents.
If you want to start everything from the very beginning, Prophecies is where to start, and then play them in order. However, if you decide to play Dervish, you can travel to Lion's Arch once that quest is open to you, run (or get a run) back to Ascalon City, and play through all of the missions that would have happened previous to a Prophecies character getting to LA. You won't actually get any rewards for doing the missions, but it will go towards the Protector title if you want to do that. |
